Mission Statement: |
The mission of the Akron Public Schools, a pioneer in academic
excellence passionately committed to life-long learning, is to
ensure that each student in our diverse population achieves his
or her fullest potential in a safe and affirming learning center
characterized by an extensive, student-focused collaboration of
all segments of the community, with an emphasis on preparing
students to live and excel in a global environment.
|
|
Strategic Plan: |
In 2001, Akron Public Schools signed a 10-point Contract With the Community. The
district vows to raise academic standards, test scores and graduation rates;
guarantee well-disciplined, safe and drug-free schools; cut costs and hold
growth to at least three percent; establish contracts with parents; put students
who behave unacceptably into alternative programs; provide teachers and
administrators with up-to-date skills; work closely with community partners;
evaluate everything; monitor funds with an independent oversight committee; and
not ask the community for additional operating funds until these goals are met. |
