Aspire Program
The Aspire Program provides educational opportunities for students ages 18-21. Successful Accel students complete requirements to earn a high school diploma.
Admission Students applying must be serious about completing required courses.

  1. A counselor, assistant principal or principal must refer students currently attending an Akron high school.
  2. Students who have dropped out of school may enroll themselves.
  3. Out-of-district students may enroll by presenting a transcript, being accepted and completing the open enrollment process.
Registration Students may enroll at any time during the school year.
Hours of Operation The hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Students may be assigned a specific time for attendance.
Fees and Expenses There is no charge for the program. However, students are held accountable for textbooks. Records will not be released to another school or grades posted for graduation until all books are returned.
Attendance It is THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to attend. Students are encouraged to attend each day to take full advantage of the program. The more students attend, the closer they are to graduation. Students who do not attend regularly (15 hours per week) will be removed. If removed, a student may reapply for enrollment after six weeks. A conference will he held to discuss the conditions of re-enrolling.

There is an assigned classroom for Aspire. Students must check in with the teacher upon arrival and when they leave. Teachers will record the time students are in attendance. It is critical to cheek in and out for accurate attendance records.

Smoking/Drugs/Alcohol Smoking and the use or possession of drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited on school property.
Parking Students who drive must purchase a parking pass for $3. Passes are available in the office from Mrs. Dillon, the program secretary.
Courses and Credits To graduate from Akron Public Schools with a high school diploma, students must complete 21 credits in required courses and pass all required tests.
Procedures and Policies
  1. Remove hats and head coverings when entering the building.
  2. Cell phones must be turned off and out of sight.
  3. No headphones or CD players may be used.
  4. During daytime hours, a hall pass must be used when leaving the classroom.
  5. Students should immediately report to their assigned room and remain in the classroom for the session. Breaks outside the building are not permitted.
  6. Exit the building and the grounds immediately when finished.
  7. Students may not be on any other APS property during the school day.
Graduation Graduation exercises are held in January for those who have fulfilled all requirements and wish to participate. The ceremony is open to students who have completed requirements from June through December. Diplomas are issued by the student’s home school.
Student Compliance Agreement Students must sign the Student Agreement to comply with the rules of Akron Public Schools and Aspire Program regulations. A student may be sent home for up to 48 hours without a formal suspension, and parents will be notified. The program manager or the lead teacher may withdraw any student who does not meet the attendance policy or commits any infraction of the Akron Public Schools Code of Student Behavior.
