Evening High School
The Evening High School is located at North High School (985 Gorge Blvd.). The school is open Monday through Friday. Call 330/761-2680 for more information.
History:
Akron Public Schools, as far back as 1920, offered courses in night school in elementary academic subjects, high school academic subjects, commercial and trades subjects, and nurse's chemistry. These courses were tuition-paid by students, except for the trades courses offered under the Smith-Hughes Act.

It is also interesting to note that, in addition to the courses cited above, there were offerings in Americanization to teach English and American customs. During the 1920-21 school year, 1,725 students were registered with an average daily attendance of 1,000 students, predominantly women.

Since April 29, 1929, the Evening High School has been chartered by the state of Ohio, establishing its graduates with the same certification standards as those of the regular-day high school.

The importance of adult education has a long heritage in the Akron school system, and the Evening High School stands as a testament to its place in the academic community.

Tuition/Refunds
Classes must be paid in full at time of registration (if an organization is paying for tuition, a letter must be written on the organization's letterhead stating intention to pay). Tuition per one-half credit is $100 for all Akron and non-Akron residents, plus a $5 processing fee. Refunds are as follows: full (cancellation of class), 70% (withdrawal during first week of classes), 50% (withdrawal during second week of classes) and none (withdrawal after second week of classes). A $5 processing fee will be deduced from all refunds for withdrawals during the first or second week of classes. A $10 fee will be charged for all NSF checks.
