General Interventions

There are many interventions that are useful in all content areas.

Themes to keep in mind when intervening with low achieving students

  1.  Make all instruction concrete and relevant
    1. Use a See it, Feel t, Hear it, Do it process
    2. Make instruction relevant to life
    3. Use “How To” books or instruction guides as models.  Print should be presented with visual pictures.
  2. Pre-organize presentation of new material
    1. Detailed information should be presented in context
    2. Material should be presented in a way that does not require the student to make inferences initially
  3. Program skill transfer/Generalization into every activity
    1. Deliberately  associate new material and strategies to previously learned material and strategies
    2. Deliberately incorporate material and strategies across instruction
