Bulllying Information

What is Bullying?

Bullying is a “symptom” of the climate of your building or school. When the overall school (or building) climate improves, so will the bullying. Bullying can take on many forms. It can be physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, racial and/or cyberbullying. It can be obvious or covert.

Bullying IS:

  • an imbalance of power
  • a pattern of behavior; repetitive; more than once; repeated over time
  • a cause of mental and/or physical harm to the person
  • not the fault of the person being targeted

Akron Public Schools' definition of BULLYING is as follows: Any intentional written, graphic, verbal or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another student more than once and the behavior both:

  • causes mental or physical harm to the other student and
  • is sufficiently severe, persistent or pervasive that is creates an intimidating, threatening or abusive environment for the other student.
