Music is a basic expression of human culture found in virtually every society. Therefore, we believe that every student should have an opportunity to experience, create, respond to, and appreciate music. Sequential music study involves and develops critical, perceptual, cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning. Music learning must be cumulative and must be reinforced from kindergarten through grade twelve if aesthetic sensitivity, growth in self-esteem, music knowledge, skills, and literacy are to be achieved. Music education must include active participation, must accommodate individual differences, and must utilize a variety of learning resources, styles, and models. It is our belief that a strong foundation in music education will lead the student to life-long learning and involvement in music.
