Instructional Framework

 The Instructional Framework (IF) is the Akron Public Schools (APS) articulation of high quality teaching and learning. It is research and "best practice" based.

The IF:

  • supports creating a culture of examining professional practice
  • supports creating shared beliefs and practices as schools and individuals improve their practice
  • provides foundational resources that enables district, school and individual teachers professional development to address fundamental practices.

 


Section I. Planning for and Delivering Instruction

The Purpose of Section I is to formulate a coherent structure that includes a well defined model of high quality instructional planning which includes the delivery of instruction and strategies linked to improving teaching and learning.


Section II. Teaching for Learning and Understanding

*Higher Order Thinking Skills

*Rigor and Relevance

*Differentiation

*21st Century Skills

*Student Engagement

*Monitoring Student Progress 

                                          

   

The purpose of Section II is to embed instruction in engaging lessons and work in which students learn at high levels, retain what they learn and transfer learning to new contexts.


Section III. Teaching for Learning and Understanding

*Professional Growth

*Qualities of the APS Teacher

*Continuous Growth

*Parent and Community Partner

                                             

 

  

The Purpose of Section III is to bring clarity to professional characteristics and occupational expectations for educators to breaden and deepen their expertise, to ensure that students have positive and successful school experiences.
