Elementary Library Resources

  • Follett's Titlewave is a collection development tool used by APS librarians.
  • Carol Hurst site features a collection of book reviews and ways to use books in the classroom.  Curriculum areas, themes and professional topics are also discussed.
  • Education World links to may ideas and activities to use with children.
  • Enchanted Learning, a producer of children's educational websites and games, has designed a great website for children with helpful links to diverse subjects such as states, nursery rhymes, astronomy, music, crafts and animals.
  • Talk It Up! maintained by the Multnomah County Library in Oregon and provides book discussion guides for many books as well as links to publisher book discussion guides.
  • Idea Box is an easily searched site with loads of ideas for crafts and activities.
  • KidsReads.com features authors, books for boys, book reviews, graphic novels,series information, games and information on book clubs. 
  • Nancy Keane's Children's Literature Webpage links to strong booktalks and author sections.
  • Notable Tradebooks for Young People can be found at site of the National Council for the Social Studies.
  • Children's Book Council publishes recommended book lists for science and social studies. Current and retrospective lists, can be found at this site.
  • Database of Award-Winning Children Literature is compiled by Librarian Lisa R. Bartle. This site includes a comprehensive list of award winners, a description of the awards and picture of available seal.
  • Librarians' Internet Index will give access to various book lists and fun activities by clicking on Reading Zone.
  • Story Arts discusses storytelling and using folktales in the classroom.
  • Tim Sheppard's Storytelling Resources for Storytellers provides a compiled a list of links, booklists and story telling suggestions.
  • Kathy Schrock's Guide to Bulletin Boards provides links to various bulletin board ideas.
  • Kathy Schrock's Guide to Citation Sources is a source for Information about citing sources, copyright and fair use.
  • Library of Congress provides the access to the library catalogs to update your shelf list.  From the Kids and family link, there are links to America's Library and Fun Science Facts.
  • New York Public Library provides a link to the The Children's Page which has many ideas and activities.
  • MIKIds is a resource for  information on reading aloud, book awards, authors, books in a series and many more helpful library links.  Click on the library link.
