EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM (SST)

Teachers, Administrators and Other Professionals

  • Extended Time: A supplemental contract will be issued for up to two weeks of extended time.

Position Description:

  • Coordinates initial preschool special education (MFE) assessments and placements;
  • Coordinates scheduling of initial evaluations;
  • Organizes student file prior to home visits;
  • Reviews information gathered from outside agencies;
  • Participates in Evaluation Team home visits for preschool children referred for a suspected disability;
  • Conducts criterion reference assessments and structured observations as part of the Multi-factored Evaluation;
  • Shares information with parents including eligibility for services, classroom visits, scheduling of MFE/IEP initial placement meeting and discusses Procedural Safeguards;
  • Completes required MFE and IEP forms on ENCORE;
  • Sends evaluation information to receiving ELP teachers and therapists;
  • Responsible for ensuring all evaluation team members have completed required MFE and IEP forms prior to initial placement meetings;
  • Participates in initial MFE/IEP meetings for preschool children;
  • Any other duties assigned by the Early Learning Program Coordinator and/or the Director of Special Education.

Required:

All of the following must be met at time of application except where noted:

  • Valid EEH or ECIS Pre-K Ohio Teaching Certificate/licensure;
  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching or related service experience with Pre-K students with disabilities; and
  • Current full-time Akron Public Schools employee.

Desired:

  • Experience in and knowledgeable about preschool special education;
  • Understanding of ODE eligibility requirements for Preschool Special Education;
  • Understanding of the Special Education Preschool Multi-factored Evaluation and initial IEP development;
  • Working knowledge and experience in administering preschool criterion reference assessments (i.e. AEPS);
  • Effective and efficient organizational skills;  timely and accurate interpretation of and reporting of data.
