The Preschool/Early Learning Program (ELP) provides educational opportunities for children ages 3-5. The program is designed to meet the educational needs of typically developing children, as well as those with special needs, and is licensed by the Ohio Department of Education Office of Early Learning and School Readiness (OELSR).

There are morning and afternoon 3-year-old and Pre-K sessions, five days a week on the APS calendar. Full-day services may be available for children with special needs, such as hearing impairment and autism.

APS currently offers two preschool-only buildings:

Stewart Preschool (Main site)

Essex Preschool

Program highlights:
Integration plays a major role in our earlylearning program. Children of all developmental levels interact and learn from each other.

  • Respect for individual differences of all people is learned.
  • Each child’s specific goals are integrated into the classroom. Individual needs are met while the child remains a part of the larger class group.
  • Support services, such as speech/language, physical and occupational therapies, are provided in the classroom rather than in a segregated or isolated location, allowing children to develop and practice new skills in a comfortable, familiar setting.

Curriculum:
We use the Creative Curriculum that links assessment, lesson planning and evaluation to create a comprehensive teaching system. It provides strategies to assist teachers in developing lessons that address Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards in English language arts, math, science and social studies. We also include motor skills and social-emotional development.
