Parent Engagement Project Report
On Wednesday, May 22, members of the Parent Engagement Project will report on how schools and parents can work together on: improving school-to-home communications, providing parents with information to assist their child's learning at home and enhancing school climate. The First Tee of Akron
The First Tee of Akron is a non-profit youth organization whose mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. The program's Life Skills Experience teaches character education through life skills and the Nine Core Values. The First Tee of Akron is open to all youth ages 8-18. Neighborhood Stabilization Program
The City of Akron's Department of Planning & Urban Development makes homes available through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The website (www.akronliving.org) contains information on the houses that have been completed and are for sale as well as the steps to be completed for purchase.
Bridges Out of Poverty Volunteers
The Summit County Bridges Out of Poverty initiative is looking for individuals to volunteer a few hours each month and partner with other individuals with graduates from the "Getting Ahead" program. Partners would come to OPEN M the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. starting in May; share a meal with the graduates; and participate in a time of encouragement, support and friendship. City of Akron's Lead Paint Hazard Reduction Grant Program
The City of Akron received a $4 million federal grant to help decrease the lead-based paint hazard in homes within the city of Akron, Summit County, Barberton and Youngstown. Seven non-profit organizations will assist the City of Akron Department of Planning and Urban Development. A total of 285 homes will be assisted through grant amounts up to $7,500 to reduce lead-based paint hazards in homes where children under six years of age or a pregnant mother reside. The household income cannot exceed 80 percent of the median income.
