Back-to-School Information

School begins on Thursday, September 1. What do you need to get ready for school? It's all here – uniforms, dress code, immunizations, new buildings and more. If you have questions, call your school in mid-August; or e-mail us.

School Day
The school day will begin and end as follows:

• Elementary Schools: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  (Harris: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
  (Windemere: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
• Middle Schools: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  (Akron Opportunity Center: 7:10 a.m.-2 p.m.)
  (Bridges grades 6-8: 7:45 a.m.-3 p.m.)
  (East CLC 7-8 Campus: 7:20 a.m.-2:33 p.m.)
• High Schools: 8:15 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
  (Akron Early College: 7:45 a.m.-3:05 p.m.)
  East CLC 9-12 Campus: 8:14 a.m.-3:27 p.m.)

Registration
Students attending an Akron public school for the first time this year or who have moved recently within the district may register at their new school or the Administration Building (70 N. Broadway, room 16). Please bring the following documentation:

• Birth certificate of the student
• Two (2) separate proofs of residency (utility bill, etc.)
• Immunization records of the student
• Parent identification (driver's license)
• Recent report card (if applicable)
• Proof of custody (if applicable)

All-Day Kindergarten
Akron Public Schools offers all-day kindergarten. You may register at your child's school.

Transportation
Questions regarding your child's transportation should be directed to your child's school after Wednesday, August 17, 2011.

New CLCs
Our construction project is moving along, and APS is opening four more community learning centers this fall. These new buildings will be schools during the day and learning centers for the community during evenings and weekends. Come visit, and see what all the excitement is about!

Open Enrollment
This school year, the open enrollment period will run from January 3 to February 3, 2012. The Miller South/STEM and Firestone's VPA/IB/Pre-Engineering programs open enrollment period will be December 1, 2011, through January 6, 2012. For more information, call 330.761.2816.
