Organizers of a farewell event for Buchtel High School are now registering vendors and looking for speakers to share their memories of the school. The event, to run from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, June 9, will celebrate Buchtel through the years – from the school's 1931 opening to present day.
Buchtel is scheduled to close at the end of the school year and will eventually be torn down to make way for the new Buchtel CLC now under construction.
The day's activities, sponsored by the PTA and alumni association, will feature games, food, music, building tours and family fun, including:
Admission to the farewell event is $10 for adults and $5 for students, and tickets are available at the door. Children 5 years of age and under are free with a paying adult. There is a separate $10 admission for the jazz breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring live music from the Keni Clayton Project. Advance tickets for this portion of the day are on sale at the Graffitti Print Shop (739 N. Main St.), the Sydney Ryan uniform store (2086 Romig Road), and Henry's Acme (1525 Hawkins Plaza Blvd.).
The deadline for reserving a vendor table is Thursday, May 31. Registration is free for current students and staff, $25 for alumni, and $50 for licensed food vendors.
Proceeds from the day's events will benefit Buchtel stadium updates.
