Betty Jane CLC: A Dream Come True

Betty Jane CLC: A Dream Come TrueWhen Principal Teresa Kossuth was asked to describe the new Betty Jane Community Learning Center in three words, she responded “a dream come true.”

Although she knew her answer was actually four words, no one could have changed her response — not today.

The Betty Jane CLC will open its freshly painted doors to students in January; and with it will come access to enhanced technology, spacious corridors and a great sense of pride.

Students will no longer have indoor recess in their classrooms or eat lunch in the same area they play kickball during gym class.

“Although it may sound simple, the separation of the gym and cafeteria is a luxury that has never been afforded to Betty Jane,” said Kossuth.

The creation of the new center was intended to motivate, inspire and increase parental involvement, as well as foster community awareness.

Some of Kossuth’s goals for the CLC’s first year include the major task of getting the students acclimated in such a large building and inspiring them to take care of it.

“I want to keep the center looking as awesome as it did the first day it opened,” said Kossuth. “We can’t wait.”

Construction for Ritzman CLC begins in November

The Ritzman CLC, slated to open next fall, will be constructed on the school’s existing site.

Students from Ritzman Elementary School moved to the Central Learning Center at 400 W. Market St. at the start of this school year.

The Central Learning Center is used as “swing space” (an alternative site for many schools) during the construction of the district’s community learning centers.
