News – Storyboard Prestigious Pursuits for IB
Graduate
Konrad Binienda was seeking a more rigorous and
international flair in his curriculum. So he transferred from Revere to
Firestone High School to pursue an International Baccalaureate diploma.
That was four years ago. Now Binienda has a new pursuit – a diploma from
Harvard.
The International Baccalaureate Program is a world-wide, two-year, high school
curriculum and examination program sponsored by a Swiss foundation based in
Geneva and administered through various regional offices.
High schools like Firestone accepted by the IB organization become partners in
an international enterprise striving toward common goals of education – a
world-wide, cohesive, comprehensive and liberal education.
There are only 2,226 schools in 125 countries throughout the world offering this
program to students. Firestone is one of only 833 member schools in the United
States and one of 15 in the state of Ohio.
“The program really helped to lessen the gap between high school and college,”
said Binienda. “I was delighted to discover that several of my classmates here
at Harvard also came from an IB program.”
Students discover that an IB diploma gives them an upper hand when applying for
college. The students are equipped with better time-management skills, have more
scholarship opportunities and are more likely to be admitted to prestigious
universities.
“Earning my IB diploma was hard work, but it really prepared me for my
experiences at Harvard,” said Binienda. “I would highly recommend the program to
anyone who truly wants to understand the broadness of learning.”
