News – Storyboard Hatton Elementary School
Celebrates 50 Years of Pride
Whether they were a former teacher, a former student
or a community member, people affiliated with Hatton Elementary School like to
stay that way. That’s why, on this special occasion, former teachers who lived
through the “Beatles Invasion” are among current parents who only remember the
“Britney Invasion.”

It was Hatton’s 50th birthday, and there was plenty to celebrate. The school
boasts its most recent rating of Excellence from the state and its increasing
enrollment.
“We believe in treating our parents and staff members like we’re all a part of a
big family,” said principal Greg Blondheim, who is only the fifth principal at
Hatton in the past 50 years. “I think that’s why people stick around; it’s that
cohesion that brings people to Hatton.”
The
celebration brought together former teachers (circa 1961 and later) who chatted,
caught up and discussed vacation plans. It brought together former students who
came to see their old class photo. It even brought together prospective students
whose parents wanted to see what the Hatton hype was all about.

“I open-enrolled my child at Hatton because the atmosphere and staff members are
so welcoming,” said Hatton parent Deborah Ball. “I mean, look around … people
come back to visit every chance they get.”
More than 200 guests participated in Hatton’s 50th birthday on April 22, 2008.
Attendees listened to comments from former principals, toured classrooms, ate
birthday cake, took their chances in a raffle and enjoyed a performance by the
Hatton Harps.
“I am so happy to come back and see my school thriving on togetherness and
pride,” said Florence Crano, Hatton principal, 1957-79. “For Hatton, that’s what
it’s all about.”
