News – Storyboard Pint-size know-it-alls
Kermit
the Frog once famously lamented that it's not easy being green. But for
Windemere kindergartener Adam, green is the only way to be.
That's because green is good in Judy "Zippy" Silverman's class. Silverman's "behavior board" is color coded to illustrate student behavior every day. Green is good. Yellow is a warning. Red loses a privilege at school and at home. Pink earns you a phone call to mom and dad from Silverman's cell phone. And purple? Purple lands you in Principal Patricia Durkin's office. After talking with 16 six-year-olds about the most important things they've learned during their first year of school, you walk away with a solid reminder about some of life's simplest lessons ― everything from the importance of following rules to the best way to make friends.
For Haley, Brandon, Matthew, Jonathan and Jacob, new-found reading skills top the list of greatest skills learned this year. Marina prefers math to reading, while Kathryn has a proclivity for painting. Joey,
sporting a mouthful of missing teeth, advocates restraint when tempted to
perform summersaults in class. "Gym class is the best place" to hone your
acrobatic skills, he advises.
