2012 May Festival of the Arts

May Festival took place at Firestone High School on May 8, 2012. The performances are performed by elementary choir students, the Middle School Honors Choir, Ellet High School Orchestra, and the Visual and Performing Arts dance students. Students' artwork are also on display. This program airs on APS-15 TV and is available on DVD by calling 330-761-3096.

APS Shoutouts! Honors Teacher at Leggett CLC

The fifth installment of APS Shoutouts! on Tuesday, May 8, honored Maggie Oliver, a teacher at Leggett CLC. Maggie began her career with APS in 2007 after she found her previous career in the business sector to be “unfulfilling.” Maggie provides dedicated service to students with autism at Leggett CLC all while working on her master’s degree, continuing to raise her autistic son and keeping everyone at Leggett CLC in a positive mode. Maggie has a significant amount of knowledge about autism and shares willingly with staff. She wrote articles on the subjects of literacy, comprehension and use of visuals for children with autism. Ms. Oliver spent endless hours making personalized books for her students and fun projects that involve their families. APS Shoutouts! honors APS employees who go above and beyond in their work for the district. APS chooses and surprises winners (a group, department or individual) every other week.

Board of Education - Meeting of April 23,2012

Its members are elected at-large for four-year terms. STEM School OAA Pep Rally - April 18, 2012

The STEM School held a pep rally on Wednesday, April 18 to get the students pumped for the Ohio Achievement Assessment Test starting next week. The University of Akron Pep Band played as the students, faculty and parents chanted O-A-A-Reading-Math-Science! Orbit of the Akron Aeros also came out to show their support. Good luck to all APS students next during testing. Let's show the rest of the nation that Ohio and Akron Public Schools are up to the challenge!
