Bell Schedule (Middle School & High School)

Academics

  • 10th-grade OGT scores in math and reading increased steadily from the 2003 through 2008 school years as follows:
    • reading: 54.7% proficient in 2003-04 to 76.2% proficient in 2008-09
    • math: 23.3% proficient in 2003-04 to 59.7% proficient in 2008-09
  • The Performance Index Score at Buchtel increased 4.5 points between 2006-07 and 2008-09, the largest gain of all the APS high schools
  • Cohort Performance (tracking the performance of the same general group of students over time between tested years): Buchtel is the only one of five high schools with growth between the 10th and 11th grades of 30% in math and 14% and 26% growth in reading
  • Graduation Rate: 79.9% – higher than the district rate of 78.3

 

Scholarships

  • 2012 graduates earned about $430,083 in scholarships
  • 58 graduates earned the Project GRAD Akron scholarship of $4000

 

Partnerships

  • Akron Realtist Association in the Reality Check program: since April 2004, these civic-minded individuals support the Reality Check program in which all 10th-grade students participate; students are assigned monthly salaries based on their current GPA and attendance and travel from booth to booth to pay their monthly bills; Akron Realtist Association provides more than 50 volunteers to donate their time for an entire school day to operate the booths
