About Portage Path CLC

  • Portage Path Elementary School has 270 students and is rated Continuous Improvement
  • Portage Path Community Learning Center opens in fall 2010
  • Teachers average 16 years of experience; 62% hold a master's degree or higher

 

Academics

  • Test scores: third-grade math scores rose 22%, fourth-grade reading scores rose 6% and fourth-grade writing scores rose 3%
  • Portage Path offers ongoing electronic testing in math and reading
  • Co-teaching model on instruction and an inclusion model

 

Partnerships/Activities

  • West Akron Kiwanis: outstanding partnership with Portage Path participating in AkronReads, planting flowers and sharing lunchtime activities with students
  • Portage Path enjoys a video conferencing partnership with Akron Children's Hospital and Kent State University
  • Students in every grade enjoy after-school programs
  • Active PTA and parent liaison program
  • Malcom Pirnie Inc. is an OhioReads partner and was awarded a $20,000 grant to continue this successful program
  • Project THRIVE encourages attendance and reduces truancy
  • GAR Foundation grant supports "Math is Fun at the Path" program
  • Reading Recovery for all first-graders
  • Undergraduate/graduate partnerships with Kent State University and The University of Akron
  • Recreational reading participation increased by 100% in one year due to a performance-based reading program with student incentives based on the 'Build a Bear" program
