What makes Barrett special?
Barrett offers computers in every classroom and a
computer lab. Grades 1-5 use the Successmaker computer
program for math and reading.
A full-time counselor and Title 1 reading and math
specialists are on staff.
Agencies serving Barrett students include Child
Guidance, Boys and Girls Club, Rotary, and Ohio Reads.
Barrett offers a Title 1 after-school program and
intervention services; the 100 Book Challenge with a
student reading lounge; the Reading First program for
reading and writing in grades K-3; 21st Century grant
after-school programs; and varied programs for special
needs children.

program correlates with student planners.

Named in honor of Dr. Clinton Delos Barrett
During World War II, Dr. Clinton Delos Barrett served as chief
executive officer of the first war dog training center in the United
States. After the war, he came back to Akron where he was instrumental
in eradicating rabies among dogs in Summit County. He was chairman of
the Summit County Animal Protective League and president of the Ohio
State Veterinary Association. Dr. Barrett served as a member of the
Akron Board of Education from 1952 to 1972.
