History
- Original building constructed in 1929
- Opened in October 1929
- Additions in 1953, 1956, 1958, 1963 and 1968 (primary building)
- Originally part of the Tallmadge School District
- Annexed by Akron Public Schools in 1931
- Named in honor of Betty Jane McBrayer (1921-27)
- Betty Jane McBrayer was the daughter of Thomas McBrayer, president
of the Tallmadge Board of Education. As president of the school board,
he had worked to ensure that a new school would be built on Darrow Road.
McBrayer's daughter had attended a portable building on the site of the
present building before she died. After the new building was completed,
the townspeople offered to name the new school McBrayer because of his
untiring efforts in making it a reality. McBrayer, however, asked that
the school be named instead in memory of his little girl, Betty Jane.
- Groundbreaking for new building on June 7, 2006;
dedication on March 6, 2008;
classes started in new building on January 9, 2008
