What makes Erie Island special? Smaller class sizes have a positive impact on test scores. Classrooms in grades K-1 have a student/teacher ratio of 15:1. School uniforms create a positive school environment The active Building Leadership and Intervention Assistance Service teams are ethnic- and gender-diverse. Some teachers have Montessori training and certification. Erie Island has an active student council and enjoys partnerships with Boy/Girl Scouts and the Caring Communities of Summit County. Extracurricular and special incentive offerings include integrated preschool; Kandy Kane before- and after-school care; and an extended-day program for science, math and the arts. Erie Island boasts a refurbished planetarium and library, computers in every classroom and a parent center. In the mid-17th century, it was here that the tribe made a last, but unsuccessful, stand against the invading Iroquois. It could well be that the playground which now contains swings once was a hunting ground for Erie braves.
