What makes Glover CLC special? The new Glover Community Learning Center opened December 17, 2008. Glover CLC's entire staff participated in staff development to improve reading and math scores. Glover CLC offers after-school intervention programs for math and reading. Students read more than 1,000 books in the Accelerated Reader program. Glover CLC's multicultural committee has several cultural programs to celebrate its diverse population. Glover CLC is raising reading and math scores through technology. Glover CLC enjoys active partnerships with area businesses. Glover CLC offers the Butch Reynolds Care for Kids program. Teachers have an average of 17 years of experience, and 83% hold a master's degree or higher. History Original building constructed in 1918 Opened in September 1918 Additions in 1924 and 1927 Named in honor of Nathan L. Glover (1842-1923) Nathan L. Glover was the first supervisor of music education in Akron Public Schools. In September 1872, Glover was hired as a vocal music teacher for the Akron schools. For years, he was the entire music department, going to each school and conducting a music class in each room about every two weeks. He organized annual music festivals and formed glee clubs and choruses in each high school. Later, he became supervisor of music, coordinating the work of a staff of itinerant music teachers. Glover retired as head of the music department for Akron Public Schools in 1921 after 49 years of service with the school system. He was succeeded by his daughter, Nellie Glover.
