What makes Lawndale special?
- Lawndale was twice recognized by the Ohio Department
of Education for the parent involvement program titled
"It isn't just coffee we serve." The program helps
parents help their children with homework.
- Lawndale recently added the Akron After School Program
with approximately 75% of student participation.
- Student activities include 100 Book Challenge, Accelerated Reader, CVEEC fifth-grade camp,
fourth-grade OHIO project, drug-free balloon launch,
Akron After School program, Reading Is Fundamental book
distribution,
Lawndale Live! closed-circuit TV, Family Reading and Math Nights,
monthly attendance incentive, peer mediation, student
council, annual food drive for Good Neighbors, Kid
Scripts and various assemblies.

and 84% hold a master's degree or higher.
History
- Constructed in 1912
- Opened in 1913
- Additions in 1916 and 1922
- Originally part of the Coventry Township District
- Annexed by Akron Public Schools in 1929
- The first Lawndale School was a one-room frame building on Wilbeth
Road. The school was named for an area of Kenmore known as the Lawndale
Allotment. In 1912, a four-room brick school was erected on 25th Street.
Because of the rapid increase in enrollment, additions were added to
Lawndale in 1916 and 1922. In 1929, when Kenmore was annexed to the city
of Akron, Lawndale became part of Akron Public Schools.
