What makes McEbright special?
  • Test scores are on the rise; last year, third-grade math scores rose 46%, fourth-grade reading and writing scores rose 22%, and fourth-grade math scores rose 7%.
  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters from Garfield pay visits.
  • The Butch Reynolds Care for Kids program is offered along with the 100 Book Challenge, OhioReads, the Good News Club and nine-week recognition programs.
  • Students participate in the Cleveland Cavaliers' Read to Achieve Challenge.
  • Title 1 resources help test scores continue to improve.
  • Teachers have an average of 14 years of experience, and 73% hold a master's degree or higher.

History

  • Constructed in 1920
  • Named in honor of Thomas McEbright (1824-94)
  • In 1864, Dr. Thomas McEbright came to Akron and soon became one of the area's prominent surgeons. For many years, Dr. McEbright served as a faithful and interested member of the Akron Board of Education.
