What makes the Voris CLC special?
- The new Voris Community
Learning Center opened on January 10, 2007.
- Voris has received several PTA membership awards and
is a past winner of the Freedom Foundation Award for
"Taking Pride in our Heritage."
- Voris offers Title 1, speech therapy, special
education, computers in the classroom, an SLD and DH
reading room, and 100 Book Challenge.
- CHARACTER COUNTS!SM
promotes individual improvement.
- Voris stresses A for attitude, B for
behavior and C for character.
- Teachers have an average of 23 years of experience,
and 80% hold a master's degree or higher.
History
- Original building constructed in 1930
- Named in honor of General Alvin Coe Voris
(1827-1904)
- General Alvin Coe Voris served as a lawyer and
legislator. However, his political career was
interrupted by the Civil War. In September 1861, he
entered the army as a lieutenant colonel of the 67th
Regiment and became its commanding officer the following
March. In 1865, he was promoted to major general for
distinguished service in the field. After the war,
General Voris resumed the practice of law. He was later
elected to the Constitutional Assembly and served as
judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Summit, Medina
and Lorain counties.
