College & Career Academies

College and Career Academies of Akron prepare middle school and high school scholars for success in the college or career path that is aligned with his or her interests and goals. By linking academic subjects to career themes, our middle and high school programs help scholars gain core academic knowledge, technical skills and soft skills that are essential for being well-prepared and competitive in his or her chosen path. Our district’s elementary schools will also be offering College and Career Academies – with a K-12 program that is going to be one of the first of its kind in the nation for elementary scholars! Soon, our district will be releasing more details about College and Career Elementary Academies to the community.

Advanced Programs

Advanced programs at APS help each scholar understand and pursue his or her skills, aptitudes and passions for life and learning. APS scholars get ahead with opportunities including International Baccalaureate programs, more than 40 Fine Arts programs in high schools, specialized STEM programs, Gifted and Talented programs in elementary schools, Honors programs, dual-degree programs like Akron Early College, and more. Innovative programs and expansive course offerings help scholars gain knowledge and skills that contribute to post-secondary success. APS graduates compete internationally in STEM careers, excel in visual and performing arts fields, and bring their talents to careers around the world.

Enriching Opportunities

Enriching Opportunities

APS goes beyond other districts to help scholars get into education early and gain access to enriching opportunities. Our Early Learning Program Preschool for children ages 3-5 is designed to meet the educational needs of typically developing children, as well as those with special needs. Special education provides high-quality, free and appropriate public education (FAPE) and related services to scholars with disabilities. Robust after-school and summer programming is also available to all scholars. Plus, our team of educators, aides, therapists and partnerships with providers and community organizations are a valuable resource to scholars and families. At APS, enriching programming, resources and collaboration with families help make scholars more likely to graduate, with scholarships like APS Innovation Generation Scholarship available to help with that next step.

Operational Transparency

Our district is always excited to share what’s happening in APS schools – like continuous investments in student safety, College and Career Academies of Akron K-12 (Elementary Academies coming soon), building improvements, expanded learning opportunities, and more. Our commitment to operational transparency encourages open dialogue with our community, helping us understand what’s important to you and in what areas of our schools you’d like to see dollars invested in order to better serve APS scholars and families.
