College Access and TRIO Programs
Akron Public Schools students have multiple pathways to earn college credit, receive mentoring and tutoring, and get support for higher education at little to no cost. APS also connects students with TRIO programs, which are federally funded college access initiatives designed to help students from low-income households and those who would be the first in their family to earn a college degree.

The University of Akron Educational Talent Search (ETS)
The federally funded ETS program helps 6th to 12th grade students prepare for post-secondary education.
The University of Akron Striving Towards Excellence Program (STEP)
STEP prepares 7th and 8th grade students for college through special programs and scholarship eligibility.
The University of Akron Upward Bound Classic
This TRIO program provides academic workshops, ACT/SAT preparation, field trips, and more to qualifying 9th to 12th grade students.
Kent State University Upward Bound Classic
The Kent State University Upward Bound Classic Program supports first-generation college-bound students in the 9th and 10th grades.
The Ohio State University Young Scholars Program
The Young Scholars Program provides college preparation for first-generation college-bound 8th grade students in nine Ohio public school districts.
