Advocacy
To help every student follow their passions and find success in the classroom and in life, Akron Public Schools advocates for removing barriers to our students' learning through anti-bullying, DEI, availability of supportive services and legislative reform. APS proudly represents a diverse student population with diverse needs and challenges – advocating for our students and their families strengthens both our schools and the Akron community.
Bullying
Harassment, intimidation or bullying toward a student -- whether by other students, staff or third parties -- is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Learn more about our commitment to providing a safe, positive, productive and nurturing educational environment.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
APS is committed to providing a barrier-free learning environment counteracting the contemporary and historical impact of bias, prejudice and discrimination which for generations has produced a predictability of learning outcomes based on race, ethnicity, class, socioeconomics, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, diverse language fluency, religion and cognitive/physical ability.
Help for Homeless Students / Project RISE
Project Rise helps students experiencing homelessness stay in school and on track. A collaboration among Akron Public Schools, local shelters and the community, Project Rise empowers students and families to improve the quality of their lives through educational, cultural and community support services and resources.
Advocacy Resources
Akron Public Schools advocates on behalf of all students across Ohio to receive a quality education. Fair and equitable funding is necessary in order to ensure every child receives the necessary resources to develop 21st-century learning skills. We encourage the community to join us in advocating for the necessary legislative reforms – visit our Resources page for help that guides stakeholders through the legislative process.
