
The Mayor's Youth Leadership Council is offering two free adult financial education workshops, in partnership with the Akron Financial Empowerment Center and Huntington. Participants will explore various bank services options and how to manage credit. The workshops are offered September 10 and October 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 1060 Kenmore Blvd. Download the the

In addition, applications are currently being accepted for the position of Teen Financial Literacy Facilitator for Akron school students in grades 10-12, which allows young people to earn money for college while teaching their peers how to become financially responsible. Upon completion of requirements, a $200 deposit will be placed into a savings account for the facilitator who may also qualify for a $1,000 college scholarship. This year’s two workshop scholarship recipients are: Ky’Asia Williams, a 2019 Buchtel CLC graduate ($1,000); and Robert Tranthem, a Firestone CLC sophomore ($500). Ky'Asia qualified by successfully facilitating 127 of her peers in lessons focusing on budgeting, credit cards and student loans. Robert qualified by completing all three financial literacy lessons offered by MYLC teen facilitators throughout the school year.
