This $1.2 million investment made by GAR Foundation last winter is providing every one of our students in Pre-K through fifth grade with a meaningful, co-curricular experience outside the classroom.

Students will visit six local cultural and historical organizations to participate in educational programming directly connected to classroom learning. Host organizations include ArtSparks, Akron Art Museum, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Akron Zoo, Hale Farm & Village, and Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.

Take a look at how this is working so far for our third-graders and their Essential Experiences with Hale Farm & Village.

Third-graders have visited Hale Farm & Village this fall. Before, during and after the experience, students study financial principles, such as how a strong economic market builds communities.

Our students have learned about producers, consumers, goods, services and resources. GAR and Hale Farm teamed up to produce a series of videos that directly support these third-grade social studies concepts. Each video features local Akron entrepreneurs explaining the resources needed to produce their goods and services to help illuminate these lessons for APS learners.
