Strong Effort to Hire Teachers

Akron Public Schools (APS) Board of Education members heard a presentation about the district’s efforts to recruit minority teachers at the Nov. 18 meeting.

APS Human Resources (HR) Director Kathy McVey discussed the district’s recent efforts to increase diversity in the classroom and gave an overview of what the department does.

McVey said the HR department was involved with 852 interviews for positions since last January. Since the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, the HR department has also dealt with 1,019 new hires, promotions and reassignments; 211 teacher transfers; and 526 resignations and retirements.
