Image of "The Weight We Carry"Firestone visual art students received numerous awards in the 2020 North-East Central-Ohio Scholastic Art Awards. The NECO awards cover six counties, including Summit, Stark, Wayne, Tuscarawas, Medina and Portage. Students in seventh through 12th grade enter artwork in multiple categories, including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media and photography.

Out of the 3,177 individual entries in the region, only 360 Silver Key (SK) and Gold Key (GK) are awarded. Firestone High School students received a total of 15 Gold Keys, 17 Silver Keys and 39 Honorable Mentions (HM):

All Gold Key pieces will have the opportunity to receive a National Gold or Silver Key in March. Winning National Keys will be eligible to be on display in New York City this June.

American Vision Awards:
The Regional Affiliate of the Alliance selects just five artworks to be nominated as "Best of Show." These works are reviewed in a special adjudication for the American Visions Award. Firestone Akron School for the Arts seniors received two of the five American Vision Awards nominations:

Portfolios:
Out of the 89 portfolios (eight cohesive pieces judged as a body of work) submitted in the region, only 15 were awarded Gold Keys. Firestone High School Akron School for the Arts seniors received three of the Gold Key portfolios and two honorable mentions:

Additional Art Scholarships and Awards:
The University of Akron Myers School of Art awarded ASA senior Mary Harris an additional $1,000 scholarship should she choose to attend school there in the fall.

Kent Stat University awarded ASA senior Mary Harris the Elmer, Virginia & Karen Novotny Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 should she choose to attend there in the fall.

Akron Society of Artists gave a $600 scholarship and Akron Society of Artists Membership to senior Liev Andrick, 12th Grade ("Color Pop 2 of 3"):
