These are historic times.

Commerce has screeched to a halt.

Residents are holed up in their homes as fears over the spread of the coronavirus have turned life as we know it upside down.

Schools are closed, and students are now learning how to learn in a virtual world.

But there are still lessons from the past to be gleaned.

The Summit County Historical Society, along with the help of an Akron school teacher, are using new tools to bring history to life for students and just plain curious folks.

Not unlike the students, Edie Hardin-Steiner, a music therapist at the Bridges Learning Center, said she, too, feels a bit like a pioneer first charting technological waters with her Facebook and YouTube Live show “Artifacts with Edie.” The program airs live Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. from the historical society’s Perkins Stone Mansion on Copley Road.

The show can be accessed on the historical society’s Facebook or YouTube pages. Read more here >>.
