Superintendent Search Update for April 8, 2021

As we prepare for our superintendent finalist candidates to interview with the board and host forums for our community, I wanted to send this final update as promised with information you will need to participate. Again, the four candidates to the final round of interviews being held on April 12, 13, 14 and 15 (in alphabetical order) are:

  • Christine Fowler-Mack (chief portfolio officer, Cleveland Metropolitan School District)
  • Felisha Gould (assistant superintendent, Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools)
  • Rebecca Kaye, Ed.D (chief information & accountability officer, Oklahoma City Public Schools)
  • Sandy Womack Jr., Ed.D (area superintendent, Columbus City Schools)
To give our community the best opportunity to provide input and hear from the candidates, we have added a day and given each candidate his/her own day of interviews. This also allowed us to provide more forums for our stakeholders. Below is the interview structure:
  • Interview with the board
  • Public presentation and forum for all community members and families
  • Public presentation and forum for business partners and elected officials
  • Open presentation and forum for APS staff (All district staff are invited to join.)
  • One-on-one introductory meeting with Mayor Dan Horrigan
  • Tour of multiple schools
  • Conversation with students at one of the schools the candidate visits (selected schools: Buchtel Middle School, Jennings Middle School, Ellet CLC and Barber CLC)
We request that everyone who is interested participates in open presentations and forums by attending in person or by viewing virtually. Each forum will be simulcast live on our APS YouTube Page. We have created a webpage to provide the community with the resumés, forum live presentation links and feedback forms for your convenience. You can view them here:

Additionally, the board has provided an in-person format with a limited number of seats available for all but the student forums. If you would like to request a seat or submit a question for the candidates at any or all of specific sessions, please contact Ruth Rieman at [email protected].

We encourage our families to attend one or more of the public sessions with the candidates. Space is limited. To reserve your place, email Ruth Rieman at [email protected].

Due to time constraints, these sessions will be moderated by our search consultant, Steve Horton, from the questions submitted in advance.

Lastly, the board wants to emphasize how valuable your feedback is to us as we make this critical decision for our district. We ask that all viewers of the presentation and forums complete the post-forum feedback to share their thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. The link to each candidate's feedback form is on the website listed above.
