Image of BCAA logoThe Bhutanese Community Association of Akron is hosting a celebration Sunday, Sept. 12, to inaugurate its new 6,000-square-foot headquarters at 1739 Brittain Road. The free event will take place from 4-8 p.m. and feature a community dinner, live traditional Nepali music and dance performances. Nepali singer Ram Krishna Dhakal will be the featured performer.

The event aims to bring together local Bhutanese entrepreneurs, small and large business owners, intellectuals, doctors, engineers and students, and others who are critical to the community’s growth and success.

Chief among the association’s concerns are the persistent language barrier that many, particularly older, Bhutanese people continue to face.

To help, the association will host English as a second language classes to support community members to improve their English reading, writing and speaking skills.

There are also going to be citizenship classes to help those who are preparing for their U.S. citizenship tests.
