Image of MLK Day at the Children's MuseumAkron Public Schools (APS) scholars from Akron Early College and STEM High School participated in the day Day of Doing at the Akron Children's Museum to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. Students volunteered as play facilitators with children ages 3-8 who were visiting the museum with their parents. The APS students helped the museum attendees make STEM-related items in the GPD Makerspace. They helped museum attendees create art projects in the Andrea Rose Teodosoio Art Studio. They facilitated creative play with museum attendees in the Curtain Call Theater. Museum attendees also had the opportunity to listen to Black History stories read by APS scholars. APS scholars had a working lunch at the museum and help build take-home play packets for museum attendees. APS scholars received a take-home play packet and will receive volunteer hours for their time of service.

A special thank-you to Traci Buckner--executive director of the Akron Children's Museum, Joy Scrutchings, Dina Popa, Caitlin Castle, Thomas O'Neil and Marvin Grandison for making this day possible.
