On March 5, 2018, Akron Public Schools Superintendent David W. James was honored by employees at APS with a surprise reception at the Conrad C. Ott Building. Staff and administrators gathered at 7:45 in the morning to let him know, as he arrived for a meeting, that they were pleased with his decision to take himself out of the running for the position of superintendent of Columbus City Schools. James had made that decision the week before.
Last night, it was the Akron School Board's turn; and it did so with a resolution to make March 5 "David W. James Day".
Board members credited Mr. James with transforming education for APS students. They sited his relationship-building with the community as one of the hallmarks of his administration.
