Image of Akron Public Schools LogoThe State of Ohio Auditor’s Office performs an annual financial audit of Akron Public Schools. The audit process is a detailed evaluation of the District’s system of financial processes which are designed to meet compliance requirements. The resulting audit report is a summary of the audit work performed and serves as an annual financial report card. It communicates the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the system.

For the audit period July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017, Akron Public Schools has once again received a clean bill of financial health from the Auditor of State, resulting in an unmodified opinion. An unmodified opinion is the highest possible audit rating and means the audit was free of major accounting or procedural errors. This assessment demonstrates to taxpayers the District’s commitment to proper stewardship of the monies entrusted to the District.

While the word “audit” can carry negative connotations with it, the actual process is very necessary and useful. We can all rest a little bit better knowing our District’s spending has been reviewed by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office and has met their standards. Knowing that our financial information is accurate allows us to focus on the District goals and leads to better decisions being made for students.
