It’s the start of a seven-week transformation.
More than 100 students from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School spent Tuesday moving furniture out of the new site of LeBron James’ I PROMISE School on West Market Street – to make room for an updated learning experience.
The I PROMISE school will become part of the Akron Public School District, using the district’s curriculum and incorporating a “STEM, hands-on, problem-based learning focus” with the Lebron James Family Foundation’s “We Are Family” philosophy to encourage support at home and in the classroom.
WKYC’s Amani Abraham got a first look into the new classrooms, which includes LJFF artwork along the wall, locker space and a wall with a blank canvas that will allow teachers to design their own space.
The school is set to open at the end of July with third- and fourth-grade classes. By the year 2022, the school will be complete with first through eighth grades.
