Image of Dental Health ProgramDental health education is important to overall health for our children. Again this year, APS is pleased to welcome Embracing Futures into our classroom.

Once again this year, oral health will be on the curriculum inside APS classrooms for 2018-19. Of the 6,000+ students taught last year, around 1,600 were third-grade students in Akron.

They can look for Kelly Hershberger or Kara Bisesi, Embracing Futures' registered dental hygienists/instructors, who teach the course.

Our thanks to Traci Buckner, executive director of the Akron Children’s Museum for rewarding kids last school year with free admission for one day to the museum if students brought her their 30-day tooth brushing calendar, all filled in (those would be fillings, we guess!)

This year, Doug Piekarz at the Akron Zoo, and Pete Fierle at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, have joined the team and will reward kids, too, for taking care of their teeth.

The folks at Embracing Futures have one very tough question for Doug at the zoo, though. "Who brushes the grizzly bears' teeth?”
