Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Gearhart began serving his two-year commitment to the Peace Corps in Kosovo May 31. He teaches children English and has established a writing and poetry club with his students. As his school day was ending in Kosovo today, he connected, via Skype, with students in Kristen Parker’s class at Litchfield and brought his writing/poetry club students into the picture. The two classes met each other across the 4,903 miles of land and sea (North Atlantic Ocean) to begin a conversation.

Ryan is the son of our Resident Educator Program Coordinator Diana Gearhart. Diana says Ryan has eight- and ninth-grade students who especially enjoy writing poems and sharing them with our kids.

Today was the first day of this across-the-sea partnership. Sandy Cline, IB coordinator at Litchfield, shared the story with us and said that Mrs. Parker's students thought this was "a really cool experience!"
