Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) and Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio (GOTRNEO) are teaming up to create a sensory-friendly area at the upcoming GOTRNEO fall 5K November 11. Girls on the Run offers a spring and fall program that uses a curriculum combining confidence-building components, physical fitness and community service to develop essential skills young girls need to help them navigate their worlds. For families with sensory sensitivities, the noise and activities can be a challenge, which is where Summit DD stepped in. The sensory zone allows people to take break from the event stimuli. Summit DD will also offer EMPOWER packs to borrow, full of portable sensory tools, which families can take with them to ease back into the event.
