Her teacher Daniel Coffield tells us that now, in addition to the regional awards, her entire portfolio (Cultural Identity) was just awarded a National Silver Medal; and she was awarded an additional National Silver Medal for one of her paintings!

Coffield informed us that If you would like to check out all of her incredible work and view her portfolio, it will be on display at Akron Galleries. There is also an Opening Reception Friday, March 22, 6-8 p.m., where refreshments will also be provided.

Her work will be on display at Akrona (1765 W. Market St.) from March 16-23.

Kalia, who is an IB student and in the Akron School for the Arts at Firestone, says of her work, “The people I chose to represent within my work are reflections of myself. The backgrounds of others are just as important to me as my own cultural heritage.” Kalia is Hmong and Caucasian.

Kudos to Kalia from the APS family on this amazing series of accomplishments.
