A Pie in the Face

Image of Canned Food DriveKudos to Voris CLC and Firestone Park Elementary School counselor Nick Louis for a challenge issued and a challenge met.

Last week, Firestone Park and Voris principals Sharon Hill-Jones and Jennifer Douglas joined in a canned food drive for Akron Good Neighbors.

Each school hosted a canned food drive for Good Neighbors for one week. The school with the higher total of items would earn an assembly where staff members would "receive" a pie to the face! Oh, principals, too!

Nick tell us from his research, "In any canned food drive, especially for one week, an average of two items delivered -- per student -- is really good. We demolished that!"

Between both schools, these generous students and some staff donated 3,112 total items to Akron Good Neighbors in just one week! Voris took home the big prize, donating 2,138 items and averaging 6.7 items per student!

Nick Louis added, "Firestone Park still killed it, donating 974 and averaging 3.1 cans per student!"

So we send congratulations and gratitude for these amazing students and staff at these generous schools.

Oh, but Mr. Louis isn't done raising food. Not by a long shot.

"I am issuing a challenge to every school in our district. We want you to host a one-week canned food drive any time from now until the end of the school year." Louis continued, " If any school can beat the combined items per student average of both of my schools, at 4.94 items per student, I will help that school host its own pie-in-the-face event. (if you are brave enough)!"

Nick Louis' own pie-in-the-face event is March 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Voris CLC. Bring forks.
