Fourth of July or July 4th, also known as Independence Day, is a federal holiday on July 4. It marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, when the United States declared independence from Great Britain. The day is the “National Day” of the United States. Later in the history of the Early Republic, the observance of Constitution Citizenship Day marks when the Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. Schools and offices are closed.
