Mathematics ACADEMIC PROGRAM

In February 2017, the Ohio State Board of Education adopted the revised 2017 Ohio's Learning Standards for Mathematics. Transition to these standards began at the start of the 2017-18 school year.

The standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn so teachers, students and parents know what they need to do to be successful.

Developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and math and education experts, the standards serve as important benchmarks to ensure that all students are receiving a high-quality education and are well prepared for college and a rapidly changing, technological and global workforce. Students are assessed on a regular basis throughout their school career to monitor their progress toward meeting these benchmarks.

Key principles include:

• focus, understanding and clarity of key topics at each grade level and progression across grades.
• balance between math procedures and concepts.
• consistent and accurate understanding of math that fosters reasoning and application.
• emphasis on college and career readiness.
