Primary Math
Ohio's Learning Standards for Mathematics, grades K-2, focuses on the following concepts at each level:
Kindergarten:
- more time dedicated to learning numbers in kindergarten than other topics
- representing and comparing whole numbers, initially with sets of objects
- describing shapes and space

First grade:
- understanding addition, subtraction and strategies within 20
- understanding whole numbers, how they relate and place value, including grouping in tens and ones
- understanding measurement and how to measure lengths
- reasoning about attributes of and composing and decomposing geometric shapes

Intermediate Math Courses
Ohio's Learning Standards for Mathematics, grades 3-5, focus on the following concepts at each level:
Third grade:
- understanding multiplication and division within 100
- fractions, especially unit fractions or fractions with numerator 1
- the structure of rectangular arrays and area
- describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes
- solving multi-step problems

Fourth grade:
- multi-digit multiplication and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends as part of effectively and efficiently performing multi-digit arithmetic
- fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers
- analysis and classification of geometric figures based on their properties, such as having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures and symmetry
