Akron Public Schools Expands Partnership with The University of Akron | UA to become Sister University at North High School

Today, Akron Public Schools (APS) proudly announced the expansion of its long-running partnership with The University of Akron (UA), naming the institution as a sister university to North High School. This announcement builds on the strong relationship between APS and UA, which includes established partnerships with NIHF STEM High School, Ellet High School, Akron Early College, and other APS programs. Together, these efforts are designed to broaden opportunities for students through enhanced academic support, expanded college readiness resources, and career-connected learning experiences.

As a sister university, The University of Akron will work closely with North High School to develop career-focused classroom instruction and hands-on, problem-based learning opportunities. The university will also help implement college admission test preparation programs, offer summer enrichment experiences, and provide valuable workshops for students and families navigating the college application process. Together, APS and UA aim to create a seamless pathway from high school to higher education, equipping students with the tools and support needed for long-term success.

The collaboration between Akron Public Schools and The University of Akron was formed with the help of United Way of Summit & Medina. United Way serves as a link between the College and Career Academies of Akron and local businesses, providing hands-on learning opportunities for students and strengthening the education-to-employment pipeline in Summit County.
